Submitting to Fledgling Dragons (Fife Press):

When writing Young Adult (YA), it is important to consider the audience. Fledgling Dragons is looking for novels with a solid sense of the target audience. Starting with the age of the protagonist, which should fall within, or even a bit older than the target age by a year or two. Sometimes older audiences will read these novels, but Fledgling Dragons novels should be geared, and appropriate for, the targeted younger readers. Topics that may be considered inappropriate for younger audiences include, but not limited to topics surrounding: sex, alcohol/drug abuse, violence (including child abuse), and suicide. Consider what happens on the page, and what can be alluded to.

Series work well with YA genre novels. Plots that are easy to follow without too many subplots/characters are ideal for this age-range.  Young Adult books should be around 60-100 thousand words. Longer word counts would be better suited for Sci-Fi or epic fantasy where world development will impact length.

Fledgling Dragons is looking for:

-Well-crafted stories that are of interest to young adults

-Novels that clearly feature young adult protagonists

-Stories that are unique, creative, and avoid social stereotypes

-Books written by people of color or indigenous people
